Bathroom Organization

I used some of the stacking bins from my weekend haul to organize a cabinet under one of the sinks in my master bathroom. Through this journey to seek minimalism, I have been removing items that don’t bring me joy. I quickly got over the “this is worth this” and “that is worth that” mentality. In my opinion, it’s worth NOTHING if it doesn’t bring you joy. So I’ve been donating all the things to a charity for women, knowing without a doubt, the items that I donate will be greatly appreciated. Doing all of this has allowed me to create space for things that I actually use and love. No more hoarding products or buying things just because it was a good deal. In the past, I would not have had space to create a “self care” cabinet, because it would have been filled to the brim with “stuff”. Not only do my cabinets feel lighter, but so do I. If you feel like you have limited storage space in your home, I encourage you to really think about what you are storing, and ask yourself “Do I really need/use this?” I bet you will be surprised by your answers. Are you on a path to simplify your home?

I found this toiletry bag for my husband, on a whim during our summer vacation. Well, I shouldn’t say a whim, we were trying to stay somewhat organized, and his old toiletry bag just wasn’t working. It had the smallest little slit for an opening, so he basically had to remove everything from the bag, just to find the one thing that he needed. He was annoyed and usually that kind of stuff doesn’t bother him. Maybe my organizing is rubbing off on him?? 🤣 We found this new toiletry bag when we took a trip to the super center, and it couldn’t have  been more perfect. It has so much room in it, and when you open it, you can see EVERYTHING!! 🙌🏻 It has a hook, so it doesn’t take up counter space, and now it lives on the back of our bathroom door just like this. And when the Mr. has to travel, he just zips it up; he has everything he needs and doesn’t have to pack a thing.

I found this 3-tiered stand at HomeGoods. I don’t know what it’s intended purpose is, but I saw it and knew it would be perfect for nail polish. And guess what?? It’s on a turntable!! It doesn’t take up much space and I can quickly find the polish I’m looking for.

Per your request, here is a glimpse inside my makeup bag.  I’ve always stored all of my makeup in a single cosmetic bag. I like that everything is in one spot, and that I can easily take everything with me when I travel without any extra effort. 🙌🏻 Simplicity + Efficiency are my jam! ✨ I slipped a purse organizer inside the bag to keep everything upright and organized. I used the compartments to create sections within the bag: face, eyes, lips, brushes etc.

  • Keep your bathroom essentials (the items that you reach for daily) in a top drawer so they are easily accessible. Use drawer inserts to keep all of your items neat and organized.

This was the very first closet that I simplified/organized when I started this journey about a year ago. The process went something like this: I pulled EVERYTHING out of the closet, placed all of it into garbage bags (12 total) and donated it all to charity. I filled the bags with all types of towels, blankets and bedding. Before my husband and I got married, we each owned established homes, so we entered our marriage with double of everything. We had some sales to try and downsize, but some of the stuff I couldn’t part with (it felt wasteful to me) because it was in perfectly good condition and “we might need it some day.” The weight that was lifted off of my shoulders from finally letting go of “stuff” gave me inspiration and motivation to make a lifestyle change. That lifestyle change is documented in this blog to provide tips and resources to anyone else that would like to simplify and organize their home.

I bought 9 of these soap dispensers from @ikeausa for .99 each. Storage solutions don’t have to break the bank, and in some cases, your initial investment can save you money down the road. I love that I will be able to fill the dispensers as needed, since a gallon of soap costs less than soap sold in individual pumps. Since I’ve been on this journey to simplify my home, I’ve also been trying to reduce color-clutter, so this will help accomplish that goal too.

Throughout this journey of organization/simplification, I chose storage solutions (bins, baskets and boxes) that I knew could be timeless with my sense of style. I chose a neutral/black/white palette throughout my home, and the nice thing about that is any of these storage solutions will work in any room if I ever need to change things up. {Tip} To make my household run efficiently as possible, I make sure every item has a set space. If I don’t bring additional items to that space, the space will remain organized without any extra effort and I can focus on the most important things in life, which has been the goal of this journey from the start.

Clear bins by InterDesign are the perfect storage solution for toiletry backstock. It’s easy to see what you have on hand and makes the task of ordering or running to the grocery store less frequent.

I have been trying to decorate my home very intentionally by taking a minimalistic approach and choosing powerful pieces that resonate with me or someone in my family. When I first saw this tapestry, my heart skipped a beat and I couldn’t let it go. I just think it is so beautiful! You might scroll through these squares of organization and simplicity, thinking dang, she has her stuff together. Maybe the word “perfection” has entered your mind. My life isn’t perfect and neither am I. Blunders and absurdities, no doubt, creep in. I’m just a person who loves to organize and take pretty pictures. I will read this quote every day while I’m getting ready. To inspire me. To keep my mindset in check. To remember, that each day is a gift, and it’s my choice to own it. I will also remember how thankful I am for this season of life, and the amazing friendships that I have been blessed with.

The task of organizing is something that genuinely makes me so happy, and it has kept me calm in so many different facets of my life. I hope the information that I share is very helpful to you. ~ Colette
